Story

Gamindustri – a world sitting at the convergence of multiple dimensions. Of these existed the Zero Dimension, a world on the brink of collapse.

Zero Dimension’s last guardian, Uzume Tennouboshi, waged a war against a mysterious evil known as the Dark CPU. Her desperate cries for help crossed dimensions and reached Neptune, the CPU of Planeptune, who would leave her world to join the fight.

Their fateful meeting would open the path to a new adventure.

And once their world is saved, they’ll join you in yours!

Pro Overclockers Make AMD’s Ryzen 7 2700X CPU Run at 6.0 GHz Across All Cores – Feat Achieved on ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero With LN2 Cooling

What happens when pro overclockers gather to test a newly released processor? World records are achieved. This is what happened with the recent AMD Ryzen 2000 series launch where pro-overclockers Der8auer and Neo (TheOverclocker) managed to push the flagship AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU to its limits.

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Overclocked To 6.0 GHz Across All Cores By Pro Overclockers

The feat was achieved over at ASUS ROG’s Taiwan HQ where professional overclockers, including Der8uer himself, had the chance to play with an endless supply of LN2 and lots of Ryzen 7 2000 series CPU samples to break records with Pinnacle Ridge CPUs. Since the testing was done at ASUS HQ, the motherboard used was ROG’s flagship Crosshair VII Hero which we have tested in our own review over here. We previously also saw up to 5.88 GHz overclocking results show up on MSI X470 motherboards.

The AMD Ryzen 7 2700X was tested in various benchmarks but the most impressive result was a huge 6.0 GHz overclock (validation here) across all 8 cores and 16 threads using a voltage supply of 1.85V. This is an incredible clock speed which although not stable, does show that this is an overall better chip compared to its predecessor that was overclocked up to 5.9 GHz. The chip doesn’t feature an OC bug which means that overclockers can fill the LN2 pot up to the top reaching temperatures around -190C (degrees).

There were also some benchmarks run at 5.7 GHz (1.550V) and memory at 1.95V (due to really tight timings). The surprising thing found out in these benchmarks run was not only did Ryzen 7 2700X manage to break some 8 core world records but it also performed vastly better than the similar 8 core Skylake-X processor that clocked higher at 6.1 GHz.

This just goes off to show the higher efficiency and added IPC improvements that deliver better multi-tasking performance in various applications. You can check out a more detailed overview of the overclocking session in the video provided below:

Introduction

A year ago, AMD launched Ryzen, a new processor family based on their latest CPU architecture, Zen. When AMD launched Ryzen along with the Zen cores, they made a commitment to gamers, enthusiasts and high-performance users that Ryzen will get better year after year. Fast forward a year and we are now looking at the second iteration of Ryzen, a better and faster processor in all ways possible, at least on the table, along with a refreshed platform.

Known as the AMD Ryzen 2000 series, the new generation of processors is similar to an Intel’s Tick which involves the move to a smaller process node while improving the core architecture. There is not much in terms of core architecture evolution but refinements from the updated process node do help in efficiency and clock rate increase.

The prices are strategically well placed against the Intel 8th Gen core offerings along with the faster overall clock speeds which would help improve parity with Intel based processors. That said, AMD also has a brand new platform in the form of 400-series which is said to go along well with the Ryzen 2000 series processor. And while the chips are compatible on 300-series motherboards, some new features which we will detail in this review are solely limited to AMD 400 series platform.

For our review, I will be testing the AMD Ryzen 7 2700 processor which is an 8 core, 16 thread chip clocked at 3.2 GHz base and 4.1 GHz boost clock and priced at $299 US. AMD X470 Chipset For Enthusiast and High-End Motherboards – The New Flagship AM4 Platform PCH

The AMD X470 motherboards will be housing several key technologies that would offer the best experience on Ryzen 2000 processors. These features include advanced power deliveries for memory and processor, support for faster memory, support for Precision Boost overdrive and XFR2 along with a range of other features that expand overall I/O capabilities of the motherboards.

The X470 is AMD’s high-end chipset for overclockers and tweakers who need robust platforms. AMD has mentioned two full x16 (Gen3) lanes for GPUs. AIBs can add additional lanes through a PLX chip but that would add to the cost. Since all AM4 CPUs have an unlocked multiplier, record breakers will definitely put X470 boards to the test on liquid and LN2 setups. AMD AM4 Socket – Extending The Ryzen Compatibility Further

Just like the AMD 300 series motherboards, the 400 series motherboards will feature the AM4 socket. Nothing has changed with the design or pin layout which means that any old AM4 CPUs and APUs will be able to run on the 400 series boards just fine.

The AM4 socket has a total of 1331 contact points for interfacing with Ryzen processors. There was a need to develop a new socket for Ryzen processors since the latter comes with support for DDR4 memory and PCIe Gen 3.0 interface directly from the Ryzen chip. The AM4 socket is featured on the AMD 400 series boards and will extend support to all future AM4 compatible processors.

Cooler Compatibility With the AM4 Socket

Since we are looking at a slightly bigger socket that measures 90mm x 54mm, the previous cooler mounting brackets from AM3+ will be non-compatible with AM4. This would require new brackets. Manufacturers in the cooling industry are now offering proper mounting brackets for Ryzen CPUs. Desktop builders who currently have an older AM3+ cooler can also grab the mounting kit for free.

While cooler manufacturers are offering their side of the support, AMD has developed a family of new Wraith coolers that are available with the Ryzen processors. AMD has three new coolers that are optimized for a range of 95W and 65W Ryzen processors. These include the Wraith Prism (95W) , Wraith Max (95W), Wraith Spire (65W), Wraith Stealth (65W) coolers. All coolers operate with less noise while delivering good cooling potential. The fans also come with RGB lighting which looks gorgeous for a reference design cooler.

It did not take long for other Android smartphone manufacturers to copy the notch, and those phone makers also included Huawei. The Chinese giant is the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world but there were times when it introduced some important trends in smartphone technology.

Huawei Claims the Notch Design Was Not Used Because it Thought That Consumers Would Not Accept It

According to Li Changzhu, Huawei’s mobile chief, the notch is something that goes against the smartphone symmetry in Chinese culture and the company feels that it was being too conservative about phone designs before.

“Consumers, especially those in China, like symmetry, and the notch is not perfect in Chinese culture. They like squares or circles—like rounded corners of the display. That’s perfect.”

However, Li did not punch Apple but commended the company for embracing this change.

“Apple using the notch was courage.”

If you take a look at the P20 Pro, it sports vibrant colors and a design that is very unique and fashionable. Though the bezel-less form will always be seen as a plus on a smartphone, what also matters is the color combination and rest of the smaller details.

“We missed our chance to pioneer with the notch design. Because we were too conservative and cautious. We will be more bold.”

The company recently unveiled the Honor 10, another phone that has embraced the notch and will be shipped in a variety of attractive colors. We certainly cannot wait to see how the Mate 20 design holds up.

Taiwanese Chipmaker TSMC Cuts Down Revenue Forecast For The Second Quarter To $7.8 Billion Citing Weak Smartphone Demand

Right now, TSMC’s at the top of the mobile processor world. Its 7nm process will dominate for at least a year until Samsung shifts gears to EUV in 2019. Apple is all set to order its next A12 processor from the company, and if we’re lucky, even the A11X. However, recent sales declines for the iPhone X haven’t done any good to TSMC (NYSE:TSM).

The fab’s second-quarter results are due on July 19th, so there’s a lot of time left. Still, the company sounds pessimistic, as reported in its Q1 earnings release. TSMC (NYSE:TSM) expects that revenues for the second quarter will drop to $7.8-$7.9 billion. The company’s revenues for its latest quarter are $8.46 Billion, down by 8.2% over the previous quarter.

“Our first quarter business was impacted by an unfavorable foreign exchange rate as NT dollar has appreciated by 5.9% against US dollar over [the] first quarter of 2017, as well as mobile product seasonality, while the continuing strong demand for cryptocurrency mining moderated the mobile softness. Moving into second quarter 2018, continued weak demand from our mobile sector will negatively impact our business despite strength in cryptocurrency mining,” said Lora Ho, SVP and Chief Financial Officer of TSMC.

Ms. Ho then proceeded to lay out guidelines for Q2 2018. She set TSMC’s expectations below Wall Street Estimations. Analysts expected TSMC’s forward guidance for revenues to stand at $8.8 Billion. TSMC’s next-generation node, 7nm, will bring a host of improvements for power efficiency and transistor density.

Google Maps Testing Out Landmark-Based Navigation for Some Users

The primary difference between asking a person for directions and referring to Google Maps is that you’ll get a more personal, in-depth response out of people, while Maps will give you a more robotic reply. Very often, when you ask someone for directions, you’re instructed to ‘take a left off the next Burger King” or ‘take a right off the run-down building’. Such instructions are much better, as they offer visual cues for one to follow, simplifying the navigation process.

It appears that Google wants to implement this system into Google Maps, and several users have reported that after a recent app update, Google Maps is no longer just using standard directions such as take turn left, turn right and make a U-turn. Instead, it is now using landmarks and other points of interest to help you find your way better.

Once the user has switched to the gaming mode, the performance of the device will be boosted. However, the numbers alone should not speak volumes related to the success of the smartphone. It is not necessary that all of the registrations will be converted to sales.

However, just 1 million registrations after a short teaser campaign is simply phenomenal. Let us hope that the phone will live up to its expectations.

Bandai Namco has released a new set of Code Vein screenshots featuring new character Mido, various weapons, and more of previously revealed characters Louis and Mia.

Here is an overview of Mido, via Bandai Namco:

Before the Great Collapse, Mido adopted orphans to conduct barbaric experiments on them and sent his “experiments” on the battlefield. Although he’s already extremely powerful, he continues to strive for power & strength. What could his intention be?

Weapons featured in the screenshots include the Broadsword, Hounds Blood Veil, Nagimukuro, Stinger, Sunset Sword, Warped Blade, and Zweihander. Louis and Mia are shown using various atacks.

Code Vein is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC worldwide in 2018.
